Metarhizium anisopliae — Powerful Bio Pesticide for Soil & Crop Protection (மெட்டாரைசியம் அணிசோபிலியே)
Metarhizium anisopliae is a naturally occurring entomopathogenic fungus — a beneficial fungus that infects and kills harmful insects and soil-borne pests. Used widely in organic and natural farming, it is one of the most effective and eco-friendly bio pesticides available for controlling a broad spectrum of crop-damaging insects without harming the environment, beneficial insects, or human health.
How Does It Work?
When Metarhizium anisopliae spores come into contact with the cuticle (outer body) of a target insect, they germinate and penetrate the insect’s body. The fungus then grows inside the insect, producing toxins and consuming its internal tissues, ultimately killing the pest within 3–10 days. Dead insects become covered in the characteristic green fungal growth, which releases new spores to continue the cycle of pest control naturally.
Pests Controlled
- Soil-borne pests: White grubs, termites, root grubs, cutworms, wireworms
- Sucking pests: Aphids, whiteflies, thrips, mealybugs, leafhoppers
- Stem & shoot borers
- Locusts and grasshoppers
- Beetles and weevils
- Effective against larvae, pupae, and adult stages of many insect pests
Key Benefits
- 100% biological & eco-friendly — no chemical residues on crops or soil
- Broad spectrum pest control — effective against 200+ insect species
- Self-perpetuating — spores multiply in the soil, providing long-lasting protection
- Safe for beneficial insects — does not harm bees, earthworms, or natural predators
- Safe for humans, animals & the environment
- Reduces chemical pesticide dependency — ideal for organic certification
- Improves soil health — supports a balanced soil ecosystem
- No resistance development — pests cannot develop resistance to fungal infection
Suitable Crops
Paddy, sugarcane, cotton, vegetables, fruits, millets, pulses, plantation crops, floriculture, and all field crops.
